Known within his family as “The young artist”, 37-year-old Egyptian musician and composer Ehab has been writing and performing for over twenty years. Singing was his initial musical interest, but when he was in high school he fell in love with the guitar and later learned how to compose music after being accepted at the Esha3a3 Center of Arabic Music.  Ehab has always had the support of his family for his career choice, but his father strongly encouraged him to study law, so he entered law school – fitting his music in with his studies. He graduated from the Faculty of Law after six years.

The early part of his musical career was beset by many frustrations, but Ehab refused to give up and continued along the path to his dream. His relationship with music was so strong that he described it as “my first and last love”.

Ehab began his music career seriously in 2001 when he established the band Dreams of the Sun. By luck, at one of the band’s concerts, he met the late Nabil Lahoud, and this coincidence played its role in his future when together they founded the band Basata – with the first of the band’s concerts taking place at El Sawy Culture Wheel on 23 April 2008. Their earliest songs were Elhaqeny and Lassa Qadir.

Ehab has used his musical talents in the film and TV industry and has written the soundtracks for a number of high-profile productions – early works include music for “Hanan Wa Haneen” series which features the late Omar Sharif, and Tare’ey which starring Sherine Abdel Wahab. He has also composed songs for other artists; like  Hossam Habib on his album Goh Al Kulab, and also composed many of the album songs.

Ana Aisha and Aktblak Taa’hod, these songs for angham were as Ehab’s greatest success. He also worked with Asala on many of her songs. His success continues, and he now works with a wider range of artists – most notably, Sherine Abdel Wahab, Mohammed Hamaki, Tamer Hosny, and Samira Said.

Ehab has also composed TV advert music tracks, winning gold awards for some of his work with Vodafone and Pepsi, and for the Ramadan ads in 2015, 2017 and 2018.

Ehab is currently finalizing Basata’s first album, which is due for release in the second half of 2018.
